2008 Kia Sedona Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out near Rincon Beach Park in Ventura, a guy flagged me down on the phone about his 2008 Kia Sedona. He had been camping with the family, and somewhere between the beach and the parking area his only key vanished. Sand, towels, cooler, kids. Gone.

He had already called the Kia dealer. They told him it would be a tow plus a wait of a few days because they needed to order the key blank and schedule the programming appointment separately. He was standing next to a minivan full of sandy beach gear with no way to move it.

I drove out with my IM608 and a HY20 transponder blank with the ID46 chip already in it. All-keys-lost on these second-gen Sedonas means reading the immobilizer data through OBD, clearing the old key registration, and writing the new ID46 chip into the system. The IMMO module on these is the Shin Chang (body control side), and AKL access through pin code read is clean once you are connected. Cut the key on the HPC1200 right there at the lot, programmed the chip, and turned the ignition.

He just stood there watching the engine idle, like he expected it to stall out of spite.

Whole thing took about 25 minutes. He drove his family home that afternoon instead of waiting half a week for a dealer slot.
