A fleet dispatcher who runs a couple of company vehicles out of a shop near North Ranch Open Space in Thousand Oaks called me about a 2019 Kia Sedona with a key held together by electrical tape.
The flip blade was wobbling in the pivot. Button pad was torn through to the circuit board. He said the driver had been folding it open by hand because the release button stopped catching. Honestly the thing looked like it had been run over, but that is just what happens to Kia flip keys after years of pocket duty.
I popped it open on the hood and checked the internals with my VVDI Key Tool. The PCF7952 transponder chip on the board was reading clean, ID still matched the car, AES-128 handshake was passing fine. The circuit board itself, the one stamped with the SY5YPFGE06 FCC ID, had no cracks or corrosion. All six buttons still fired when I pressed the pads directly on the board.
So the whole problem was the housing. Swapped the guts into a fresh aftermarket shell, transferred the blade, cut a new one on my Condor XC-Mini to match the KIA3 profile since the original was visibly worn on the shoulder cuts.
He had a second company car that needed the same thing. Both done in about 40 minutes total, right in the parking lot, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted him for just one.
