2012 Kia Sedona
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How much more does all-keys-lost cost compared to just adding a spare?

More. Sometimes a lot more. When you still have one working key for the 2012 Sedona, adding a spare is a relatively quick registration job. When every key is gone, the immobilizer has to be fully reset before any new key can be enrolled. That reset takes longer, requires more equipment interaction, and costs more labor. Kia owners across forums report dealer all-keys-lost quotes well into the hundreds, sometimes pushing past a thousand dollars on newer models.

Q: Do aftermarket keys work on the 2012 Kia Sedona, or should I stick with OEM?

For the 2012 Sedona specifically, quality aftermarket blanks generally work fine when sourced from a reputable supplier and cut correctly. The transponder chip still needs to be programmed to the vehicle regardless of brand. Where aftermarket goes wrong is cheap housings that crack early at the flip pivot, which is already a weak point on the factory key. We carry blanks tested for this vehicle so you're not finding out the hard way six months later.

Q: My 2012 Sedona key turns but the van won't start. Is that a key problem or something else?

If the key turns freely and the engine cranks but dies immediately, or won't crank at all while the security light stays on, the immobilizer is not recognizing the transponder chip. That happens a few ways: the chip inside the key head has failed, the key was replaced with an unprogrammed blank, or the antenna ring around the ignition cylinder has a wiring issue and isn't reading the chip even though it's there.

Q: Can I get a spare key made for my 2012 Sedona without going to the dealer?

Yes. A mobile locksmith with the right programming equipment handles this without a dealer visit. I come to you in Wildwood or anywhere in Thousand Oaks, cut the new key blade to your vehicle, and program the transponder so the immobilizer accepts it. The whole job typically runs under an hour. You don't need a dealer for this generation of Sedona.

2012 Kia Sedona Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

In Wildwood, over in Thousand Oaks, a woman had been running her 2012 Kia Sedona on a single key since she bought it used. She always meant to get a spare cut. She never did.

Then one morning she went to unlock the door and the blade snapped clean at the pivot. Flip key housing in one hand, blade stuck in the lock cylinder. She called me from her driveway, not sure if she needed a tow.

She didn't.

The chip inside the cracked housing was fine. I read the transponder data directly off it, which told me everything I needed without running a full all-keys-lost reset. I extracted the stuck blade from the lock, decoded the cylinder, and cut two new keys on the spot. The chip data went into both. Forty minutes start to finish.

She got two working keys out of a morning that started with zero. The dealer was going to be a multi-day wait and a lot more money. Getting a spare made the same day as the original repair was the move she should have made years earlier, and I told her that.

Kia Sedona Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to replace my 2012 Kia Sedona key?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you call the dealer. Dealers consistently quote Sedona owners significantly more than what a mobile locksmith charges, and that dealer quote usually doesn't include coming to you. With EZ Car Keyz, I come to you in Thousand Oaks, cut the key, program the transponder chip, and you're done. No tow, no appointment wait, no separate line items for cutting and programming. Call for current pricing.
