I pulled the blade fragment from the door lock, then checked the broken key head. The ID46 transponder chip inside was still intact. That matters because it meant I could read the transponder data with my VVDI2 instead of running a full all-keys-lost procedure through the OBD port on the Smartra immobilizer module. Saved a real chunk of time.
I decoded the lock with my HY22 Lishi, cut two fresh KIA3 profile keys, and cloned the ID46 chip into both new key heads. She went from zero keys to two in about 35 minutes, standing right there watching.
She asked if she should have gone to the Kia dealer. I told her she could have. They'd want the car towed in, it would sit for a day or two, and the bill would be a lot more. She was glad she called first.
