2011 Kia Sedona Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over near Stagecoach Inn Museum in Thousand Oaks, a guy on a road trip flagged me down through a phone call. His 2011 Kia Sedona's key blade had snapped clean inside the driver door lock. Half the blade was still jammed in the cylinder.
He told me another locksmith already looked at it and said the whole lock cylinder needed to be drilled out and replaced. New cylinder, new key, new headache.
I pulled out my Lishi HY20 pick and decoder tool and went to work on the cylinder with the broken fragment still sitting in there. Slid it in alongside the broken piece, got purchase on the fragment, and walked it out without scratching a single wafer surface. The cylinder was fine. Totally undamaged.
Once the fragment was out, I decoded the lock right there by reading each wafer position for cut depths. Cut a fresh HY20 blade on my mobile machine, then programmed the ID46 Hitag2 transponder through the OBD port under the dash. The immobilizer picked up the new chip on the first pass. Turned the key, engine fired, security light went off.
He stood there holding the two halves of his old broken key, looking back and forth between them and the new one like he was doing math in his head.
No drilling. No new cylinder. No tow to a dealer. His Sedona looked exactly the same as before it happened.
