2016 Kia Sedona Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was about 10:30 at night when I got the call from a parking lot off Thousand Oaks Boulevard, not far from the Sunset Hills area. A guy had just finished a late shift and his only fob for his 2016 Sedona was gone.
Not at home, not in a pocket, just gone. He didn't have his registration on him, couldn't pull up his insurance app fast enough, and was already thinking about calling a tow.
I slowed him down. Told him to walk to the driver's side, look through the bottom of the windshield at the dashboard. He found the VIN in about thirty seconds. That was all I needed to know what I was walking into: 2016 Sedona, smart key system, six-button fob, CR2032. I pulled the right blank and had everything staged before I left.
When I got there he was sitting on the curb. I ran the all-keys-lost procedure through the OBD port, which wipes the old key data and opens the system to accept fresh registration. Then I programmed and tested the new fob on site, checked every button, and confirmed the van started clean.
He drove home that night. The dealer option would have meant a tow, a wait until morning, and a bill that was a lot heavier than what he paid me.
The VIN is the one thing that lets me show up prepared. If you're ever in that situation, that number is your fastest path to getting back on the road.
