Got a late call from a guy near the Borderline Bar and Grill memorial in Thousand Oaks. Third-shift factory worker, only had one key for his 2014 Sedona, and it just stopped turning the engine over. The van would crank for about two seconds and cut out. Classic immobilizer rejection. He thought the starter was going bad and was already pricing tow trucks and planning a week of bumming rides.
I told him to sit tight.
Pulled up around midnight. His key was worn down pretty good, the HY20 blade had visible rounding on the cuts, but the real problem was the ID46 chip inside the bow. It was not reading. The immobilizer module in the cluster was killing ignition every time.
I connected my programmer through OBD, ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the second-gen Sedona, wiped the old key data, and registered a fresh transponder with a new-cut HY20 blade. The whole thing took maybe 25 minutes in his driveway.
He sat on the front steps and watched. When the engine caught and held, he just nodded like he was too tired to react. Then he asked if he should get a spare. I told him yes, and cut him one right there.
