2011 Lexus CT Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman near Marina Park in Ventura was on her lunch break, sitting in the Nordstrom lot, completely convinced her 2011 Lexus CT 200h had to go to the dealer for a replacement smart key. The dealer's website said so. Her friend backed it up. A ClubLexus thread she found seemed to agree. All of them were either wrong or years out of date.
I met her at her car. She had the hood of the fob story all figured out, so I just got to work.
The CT 200h runs the Toyota/Lexus Smart Key system through the smart key ECU (part 89990-76010 on most CT builds) and a set of interior proximity antennas. Programming means registering the new fob's 80-bit transponder code with that ECU via the OBD-II port. I used my diagnostic tool to write a new HYQ14ACX, cut the emergency insert blade (TOY48 profile), and tested every function. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic. Push-to-start, twice, cold and warm. Handle touch unlock on both front doors.
She watched the whole thing from outside the driver window, arms crossed, like she was waiting for something to go wrong.
The car sat in the same parking spot the entire time. Took about 30 minutes. The dealer wanted an appointment later that week and a ride home while they worked on it. Her CT doesn't know or care where its key was programmed.
