Guy came back from a week-long business trip and walked out to the premium lot near Ventura airport to find his 2012 Lexus CT 200h completely dead to his fob. Pressed the lock button, nothing. Pressed unlock, nothing. Held the fob right against the start button for the emergency backup read, still nothing. Just "Key Not Detected" on the dash and silence.

The immobilizer log showed repeated LF wake failures and a stored DTC for smart key communication error.
Swapped in a fresh CR1632, cleared the fault codes, and reinitialized the handshake. Tested all four buttons, both door handle touch sensors, the trunk release, and a cold push-button start. Everything came back clean.
He drove home that same afternoon. No tow, no two-day wait, no dealer queue. Just one visit in the parking lot for a fraction of what that whole ordeal would have cost.
