2015 Lexus CT
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you're not one of those bait-and-switch locksmith operations?

Scam locksmiths are genuinely common in this industry, so it's a fair question. The pattern is always the same: a fake listing, a price that sounds too good, and a number that triples once someone shows up in an unmarked car. EZ Car Keyz has over 100,000 followers across YouTube and TikTok where you can watch us do this exact work on Lexus vehicles and others. We give a firm price on the phone.

Q: Will a replacement key work exactly like the original fob?

It should, and we test every function before we leave to confirm it does. On the CT, that means lock, unlock, and the other buttons, plus door handle touch unlock and start-button recognition. One thing worth knowing: CT owners on forums have run into situations where a dealer replaced hardware when the actual problem was a configuration issue in the vehicle's security settings.

Q: My CT shows a key warning on the dash but the fob battery is brand new. What's going on?

A few things can cause this even with a fresh battery. First, the fob might be in sleep mode. The CT has a relay-theft deterrent built into the fob that shuts down the signal when activated. Hold Lock, tap Unlock twice, watch for four flashes. If that's it, you're done. Second, the battery replacement itself. The CR1632 contacts in the CT fob are easy to slightly misalign when you close the case back up.

Q: Can I buy a replacement fob online and just have someone program it, or does it have to come from Lexus?

An aftermarket or used fob with the correct factory FCC ID can be programmed to your CT. It does not have to come from the dealer. What it does require is professional diagnostic equipment to register it to the vehicle's immobilizer. There is no self-programming sequence on this system. The emergency blade inside the fob also needs to be cut to your specific vehicle.

2015 Lexus CT Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already heading up toward The Avenue on another call when my phone rang. Real estate agent, 8 in the morning, showing at 9. Her CT was sitting in a parking lot off Main and the start button wasn't responding. She had clients arriving in under an hour and she wasn't asking if I could help, she was asking how fast I could get there.

Twenty-five minutes later I was in the lot with her.

She'd already tried holding the fob against the start button, which is the right instinct on these, so she knew something was actually wrong. I checked the fob first. The CR1632 was original and had been in there a while. Under load it wasn't putting out what the antenna ring needed. Swapped the battery, reseated it properly, and the start button lit up on the first press.

That was the good version of this job. But I stayed to confirm. Walked both door handles for touch unlock, checked the lock and unlock buttons, ran the other buttons. Everything came back clean. No communication fault, no registration issue, just a battery that had quietly given up sometime in the past week.

She was in the car with eight minutes to spare. The dealer would have meant a tow, a two-day wait, and a bill that would have made her eyes water. This was done in a lot off The Avenue before her first client hit the doorbell.

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, fully insured, and holds NASTF Vehicle Security Professional certification.
