What makes it tricky is that the fob can still lock and unlock the doors at decent range while being too weak for the vehicle's interior antennas to reliably read it at startup. So the remote functions seem fine, but the start system throws a warning. Swap the CR1632 first, make sure it's seated flush, and retest. If the intermittent warning keeps happening after a fresh battery, then it's worth looking at the fob antenna or the fob itself.
