In Camarillo Springs, a customer called me about his 2018 Lexus LC sitting in a parking area near the trailhead off Camarillo Springs Road. He had taken it out for a morning drive, stopped to stretch his legs, and somewhere between the car and the path his only fob disappeared. He checked every pocket twice. Nothing.
He assumed the car was going to sit there until a tow could bring it to the dealer, which was going to mean waiting days and paying for everything upfront. He found me instead.
When I got there, the first thing I did was get the door open using a non-destructive entry technique, working the lock mechanically without damaging a thing. Once inside, I decoded the lock cylinder and cut a fresh emergency blade to match. That gets you in and gives you a physical backup key.
Then I connected through the OBD port, ran the all-keys-lost sequence for the LC's smart key system, and registered the new four-button fob to the car. The procedure has a timed countdown built into it, same as other vehicles in this family, so you just have to work through it correctly and wait it out. Once it completed, I walked every button, checked that the vehicle recognized the fob at the door handles, and confirmed it started cleanly.
He drove out of that lot himself. No tow, no multi-day dealer visit. The dealer comparison came up on its own when he looked up what this would have cost him otherwise. He saved a good chunk, and the whole job took under an hour on site.
