2020 Lexus LC
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: The dealer said I have to tow my LC in for key work. Is that true?

That's a common line, and it's not always accurate. Lexus dealers routinely tell owners the vehicle must be towed in for any all-keys-lost situation, and for some jobs that's legitimately their process. But a qualified mobile locksmith with the right diagnostic equipment can handle key registration at the vehicle. I come to you in Oxnard, bring the tools needed for the 2020 LC's security system, and do the work in your driveway or parking spot.

Q: What do I need to prove I own the vehicle before you can make a key?

A valid photo ID and proof of ownership, either your registration or the title. I verify the VIN from the dashboard plate or the door jamb sticker on the LC and confirm it matches your paperwork. Same standard a dealer holds you to, done on site in a few minutes. Ownership verification is non-negotiable regardless of who does the work, and I won't skip it.

Q: My 2020 LC shows a key warning on the dash even though the fob battery is fresh. What's going on?

Fresh battery doesn't always mean good contact. The CR2032 in the LC fob has to sit completely flat against both terminals. If the battery tray got bent slightly during a previous swap, or the battery shifted, you can get a key-not-detected warning even with a brand new cell. Open the fob, check that the contact plate isn't deformed, reseat the battery, and retest. If the warning clears, that was it.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can I program it myself or do I need a tech?

You'll need a tech. The 2020 LC does not have a DIY button-sequence or ignition-cycle add-a-key method. Registering a new fob to this vehicle requires diagnostic equipment connected to the OBD port. If you already bought the fob, hang onto it. I can pair it to your car on site in Oxnard, which is often still less than going the full dealer route even after factoring in the fob you purchased separately.

2020 Lexus LC Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Near Five Points, a woman had a 2020 Lexus LC that she clearly loved. The fob told a different story.

The rubber on two of the four buttons had worn almost flush, the shell had a hairline crack running from the key release button down the side, and the emergency blade slot had enough play in it that the blade wobbled when you pulled it out. The car started fine. Everything electronic inside was working perfectly.

She had already been to the dealer. They quoted her a number that made her pause, for a complete fob replacement, new electronics and all. Nobody there mentioned that the circuit board inside was in good shape and the problem was purely cosmetic wear on the housing.

I met her in the garage. Verified the fob with her, confirmed the board was reading correctly, and did a shell swap on site. Moved the working internals into a fresh housing, reseated the buttons, and sorted the blade fit. Ten minutes of actual work.

She asked me afterward why the dealer didn't offer that option. I told her I genuinely didn't know. Some shops don't stock the shells. Some just default to the full replacement ticket. Either way, she left with a fob that looked and felt like new, for a fraction of what they wanted, without touching anything that was actually working.
