The rubber buttons on the HYQ14FBF were soft and faded, the shell had a hairline crack along the seam, and the emergency blade wiggled in its slot like a loose tooth. I popped the old shell, moved her working circuit board and Texas Instruments DST-AES 128-bit transponder chip into the fresh housing, seated new button pads, and cut a clean emergency insert blade to match.
Then the walkthrough. Tested proximity unlock on both doors, trunk release, push-button start, and made sure the dash showed no key warning icons. She stood there watching the instrument cluster like she expected it to complain. It didn't.
Her electronics were always fine. She just needed a shell swap and a new blade, done at her house, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted for a whole new fob.
