Downtown Oxnard, midday. A woman had parked in a garage near her office and was getting a key-not-detected warning every time she walked up to her LC. The door handles weren't recognizing her approach half the time, and the push-button start was making her press twice to get a response. She'd already replaced the battery herself, so she assumed the fob was failing.
I met her at the garage. She handed me the fob and I opened it right there on the trunk lid of her car. CR2032 was correct, but it had been seated a little off-center, one edge barely making contact with the positive clip. The contact tab itself had a slight outward bend from being pried open, probably with a coin at an angle. I straightened the clip, cleaned both contact surfaces, reseated the battery correctly, and closed it up.
Walked every door, tested touch-unlock on both front handles, confirmed the start button response, ran all four buttons. Everything came back clean.
She mentioned she'd already called the dealer before calling me. Parts lead time on a replacement fob, programming appointment, the whole thing would have taken the better part of a week and cost her significantly more than what she paid me. This was thirty minutes in a parking garage.
