2007 MINI Convertible Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy near Carpinteria Creek Park in Carpinteria. His 2007 MINI Convertible was sitting in his driveway with zero working keys. The original remote head key had gone through the wash a week earlier. He figured it still worked because the car started a few times after. Then one morning, nothing. Cranks, no start, and the red key icon on the cluster just staring back at him.
He had already called the MINI dealer. They told him to tow it in and quoted a wait of five to seven business days for the key to arrive, plus the programming appointment after that. He said the tow alone made him want to sell the car.
I got there, pulled the lower dash trim, confirmed he had the EWS3 module, not CAS. Read the ISN off the EWS3 with my programmer, decoded the HU92 keyway from the driver door cylinder, and cut a fresh blade on site. Programmed the PCF7935 chip to the EWS3 and synced the three-button remote. The whole thing took about 40 minutes.
When he turned the key and the engine caught on the first try, he just sat there for a second with his hands on the wheel. Didn't say anything. Then he turned it off and started it again, like he needed to be sure.
