Got a call from a guy over near Shoreline Park in Santa Barbara. His 2015 MINI Convertible was sitting in the lot with the top up, which he pointed out like it mattered. All keys lost. His only fob had fallen out of his shorts pocket somewhere on the beach trail the day before.
He had already called the MINI dealer. They told him the car needed to be towed in, the part would be ordered, and he was looking at several days minimum. He found us instead.
I pulled up, confirmed the R57 generation, and got to work through the OBD port. The CAS3+ module on these needs a full all-keys-lost reset, which means reading the ISN from the CAS, syncing it with the DME, and writing a fresh key to both. The Hitag2 transponder has to match or the immobilizer just sits there with "No Key" on the instrument cluster and the engine won't crank.
Cut the new HU92 blade on site to factory spec. Programmed the NBGIDGNG1 remote, tested all four buttons, cycled the locks, opened the trunk, hit the panic. Then started it twice to make sure the immobilizer cleared clean with no ELV steering lock faults.
He stood there watching the whole thing with his arms crossed, not saying a word. When the engine caught the second time he just uncrossed his arms and nodded once. That was enough.
Whole thing took about 40 minutes. A fraction of what the dealer wanted, no tow, no waiting on parts.
