Over in Conejo Creek North Park in Thousand Oaks, a guy called me from a self-service junkyard lot. His 2012 Nissan Rogue's key blade had snapped clean in half inside the ignition cylinder. One piece stuck deep in the wafers, the other piece in his palm. He didn't want to force anything and make it worse.
When I got there, he was standing next to the Rogue with the hood up, like opening it would help somehow. Just a reflex when something goes wrong with your car.
I used my DAT17 Lishi tool to extract the broken blade tip without chewing up the ignition wafers. Once the piece was out, I decoded the lock right off the cylinder and cut a fresh NSN14 blade from the readings. His Rogue uses the CWTWBU729 Intelligent Key fob, which was fine and still sitting in his pocket. The blade is what carries the PCF7936 (ID46) transponder chip that the NATS immobilizer needs to see before it releases the starter. I programmed the new chip through the OBD port, and the BCM picked it up on the first registration cycle.
Whole thing took maybe 40 minutes from my arrival to him turning the engine over and driving off. A snapped key at a junkyard feels like a full-blown emergency. On a first-gen Rogue, it's one of the simpler calls I run. The dealer route would have meant a tow, a multi-day wait for the parts department to order the blade, and way more money than he needed to spend.
