2018 Nissan Rogue Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Wildwood, Thousand Oaks called me on a Tuesday evening. He said his Rogue was giving him a key-not-detected warning on the dash, but only sometimes. In the morning it would start fine. By the time he got off work, maybe a 50/50 shot. He figured it was the car, not the key.
He had gotten a replacement fob made by another locksmith a couple weeks before. Worked great at first. Then the intermittent thing started.
I drove out to him. The fob looked right on the outside, factory-style housing, correct blade in the back. I put it on my diagnostic equipment and read the data. The key had been enrolled to the vehicle, but the enrollment hadn't gone cleanly. The immobilizer had accepted it initially and then, across several start cycles, flagged it during its own internal verification routine. That is a real thing that happens when the programming sequence gets rushed or the tool loses connection mid-write. It is not always obvious on day one. It shows up later.
I erased that fob's registration, re-enrolled it properly this time with a clean read-write and a full confirmation cycle, and verified it on his immobilizer. I also popped the fob open while I was at it. The CR2032 inside was a no-name generic. Loose in the tray. Swapped it for a quality cell and seated it right.
After that, we ran it ten times in a row. Start, off, walk away, come back, start again. No warnings. He said it was already smoother than it had ever been. That is usually how you know the enrollment actually took.
He had already paid the first locksmith. I told him the cost to fix it was a fraction of what the dealer would have quoted to re-do the whole thing from scratch.
