Over near the Pleasant Valley Bike Trail in Camarillo, a retired librarian flagged me down through a neighbor's recommendation. She had a 2009 Xterra, needed a spare key, and the dealer had already given her a quote that made her sit on the problem for weeks.

The PCF7936 chip in the key head answers back with a rolling encrypted handshake. If the BCM does not like the answer, it kills the injectors and you sit there cranking.
I plugged my programmer into the CONSULT-II port under the dash, pulled the existing key registrations, then added the new CWTWB1U751 with her original present so it would not get wiped. Cut the NSN14 blade on site. Whole thing, maybe 25 minutes.
She turned the new key, the SECURITY light on the cluster did its normal blink-then-off routine, and the engine caught. She turned it off, tried the original, same thing. Then she tested the lock and unlock buttons from the kitchen window, just to be sure.
