2009 Nissan Xterra
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2009 Nissan Xterra Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy in Old Town Camarillo who'd been sitting on a problem for about two weeks. He had a 2009 Xterra and one working key. The fob functions had stopped responding on that key, but the blade still started the car. He wanted a spare cut and programmed before the remaining key gave out completely.

When I pulled up, he mentioned the dealer had quoted him a number he wasn't happy about, plus a scheduling window that pushed him out almost a week. He didn't have a week. He was using that truck for hauling gear and couldn't have it sitting at a shop on a Tuesday afternoon.

I set up next to the Xterra in his driveway, off the main strip of Old Town. Pulled the existing key, confirmed it was reading properly, and started the programming session with both keys present at the same time. That part matters a lot on this vehicle. You can't just add a new key after the fact in a second session. The immobilizer registration on these pulls all previously stored keys and rewrites the whole list at once. I explained that to him while I was working, because I've seen people buy a second key online and then try to get just that one programmed without bringing the original. It wipes the working key right out.

New key cut on site, both keys registered together, both tested at the ignition and on the remote functions. He had a working spare and his original back in his hand in about 35 minutes.

The dealer option would have cost him more, taken longer, and required him to drop the truck off. He mentioned that almost as an afterthought. I don't bring it up first.
