2012 Nissan Xterra Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy working from home on one of the steep hillside streets in Ventura, up in the Hillsides area where the roads narrow down to one lane and there's nowhere to turn around. His 2012 Xterra was parked right at the top of a cul-de-sac. He'd called a tow truck first. The driver looked up the street and passed.
The dealer's answer was to get the car to them somehow. He didn't have a working key to do that. So that suggestion went nowhere.
I parked at the bottom, grabbed my bag and the cutting machine from the van, and walked up. The Xterra was sitting exactly where he said it would be, wedged between two other cars with about a foot of clearance on each side.
His original remote head key had a cracked housing and the blade had been bent slightly from being forced into a tight pocket. The remote buttons were already dead. I pulled the factory fob ID off the existing key, cut a fresh blade to match his door lock, programmed the transponder to the vehicle, and tested the remote functions before I left. The whole job happened on that hillside without moving the car an inch.
He mentioned what the dealer quoted. It was a lot more than what I charged, and that number didn't include any plan for actually getting the car there in the first place.
