I was over in East Ventura on a Tuesday when a guy called me from the parking lot behind the hunting supply store off Telephone Road. He'd been fighting his 2010 Xterra ignition for a few weeks. Wiggling the key just to get it to turn, pushing on the steering wheel, the whole ritual. I decoded the lock, replaced the worn wafers, and cut a fresh remote-head key matched to the repaired cylinder. The remote functions paired back up without issue.
I showed him the old wafers side by side with the new ones so he could actually see the wear pattern. He said he thought the whole ignition was shot. It wasn't. He left with a key that turned like it was supposed to, for a lot less than the dealer number, and he didn't swap out a single part that wasn't actually causing the problem.
