Guy landed after a late flight, walked out to the economy lot near Oxnard Beach Park, and his 2002 Jetta just sat there. Remote dead. No chirp, no unlock, nothing. He had never pulled the emergency blade out of the flip key housing before and didn't know it was in there.
He called around. Dealer in Oxnard told him earliest opening was Thursday. This was Tuesday night. Tow company wanted to haul it to the dealer and hold it there. He found my number and asked if I could come to the lot.
I got there within the hour. Showed him the blade release on the NBG735868T housing, popped the key out, and got the door open the old-fashioned way. Turned the ignition and it started right up. The Immo3 system read the ID48 chip in the key head just fine. His whole problem was a dead CR2032 killing the remote, and not knowing the mechanical blade was hiding inside the fob.
Swapped the battery, tested all four buttons, lock, unlock, trunk, panic, confirmed range from about 30 feet out. Then I connected my IM608 through the OBD port and pulled the immobilizer status on the cluster just to make sure his key was still cleanly learned. No faults stored. Everything matched.
He had a shoot starting across town in a few hours. He made it. The whole visit took about 25 minutes.
