Sunday morning at the Oxnard swap meet, over near the Mandalay Beach side. A vintage reseller had already laid out her whole booth when she walked back to her car and found the flip key doing nothing. One of the battery contacts had a slight inward bend from years of battery swaps, so even a fresh cell wouldn't have made solid contact without addressing that first. I straightened the clip, seated a new CR2032 correctly, and closed the fob back up.
Then I ran through the immobilizer side of things with my programming equipment and confirmed the transponder was reading properly and the fob was communicating with the vehicle. Tested lock, unlock, and every button. Tested the key blade in the door cylinder. Walked the perimeter checking range.
She was back at her table in under an hour. She didn't need a new key, a dealer appointment, or a Monday tow. Just the right call on a Sunday morning.
