2019 Volkswagen Jetta
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2019 Volkswagen Jetta Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked near the beach access on a Tuesday morning when the call came in from Hobson Park in Oxnard. Guy had walked out to his 2019 Jetta and his only key was snapped off in the door lock.

Not the ignition, the door. The blade had been slightly bent for a while and it finally gave up at the worst moment. He could see the broken tip sitting in the lock cylinder.

He had already called the dealer. First available appointment was four days out, and they told him the car would need to be towed in anyway.

I was at his car in under 30 minutes. I extracted the broken blade tip from the door cylinder without damaging the lock, then decoded the cut from the cylinder itself so I had the exact key profile. I cut a fresh blade to match, verified it in the door lock, then moved to the ignition. After that, I connected to the OBD port and ran the immobilizer sequence to register the new key. The transponder paired, the engine started, I tested the door lock and ignition twice more to confirm.

He asked me what the dealer would have charged. I told him I had no idea what their exact number was, but I knew it would have been significantly more than what he paid me, and it would have taken four days he did not have. He nodded like that tracked with every expectation he already had.

The whole job was done on the street in front of his place. No tow, no wait, no appointment.
