2014 Chevrolet Express Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy parked near the coin laundry in Downtown Chula Vista. He had a 2014 Express that would crank, catch for a second, and then die. Every time. He was convinced it was a fuel delivery issue because the engine was clearly trying to run.

He mentioned almost as an aside that he'd had a spare key made somewhere a few weeks back. That's usually the tell.

I got there and tried the original key first. Started right up, no hesitation. Tried the spare. Crank, brief fire, stall - exactly what he described. The immobilizer was reading the transponder in the spare key and not liking what it found. The other place had cut the blade correctly but the transponder programming was off. Close enough to attempt a start, not close enough to actually run.

I programmed a new key on site, verified it against the van's system, and had him do a few cold start cycles while I was still there. Every start was clean. He asked why the bad key even worked once or twice when he first got it. Honestly, that happens with a marginally programmed transponder. The system gives it a look, almost accepts it, and then tightens up once it logs a few cycles of rejection.

The whole job was done on the street, took under an hour, and cost him a fraction of what a dealer would have needed just to diagnose it - before they even ordered parts.

He kept the bad key as a reminder to not go back to that other place.
