The job moves at the pace of the work, not a mandatory wait timer. If there is a complication like a damaged lock cylinder, that adds time, but the key replacement itself is a contained process.

That crank-and-stall pattern is a known symptom when the immobilizer does not successfully read the transponder chip. It can happen with a worn or damaged key, a chip that has developed a fault, or occasionally an antenna ring issue around the ignition cylinder that affects how reliably the chip gets read.

First thing I would check is the physical condition of the key. A chip that has been cracked from a drop, or a key that has been on a heavy keyring bending the blade repeatedly, can produce exactly this kind of intermittent failure. It works, then it does not, then it works again, and the pattern gets worse over time.

If you have a spare key, test with that. If the spare starts the van consistently and the primary key keeps cranking and stalling, the key itself is the problem and a replacement is the fix. If both keys behave the same way, the issue is more likely on the vehicle side and worth a diagnostic look at the ignition antenna.

Can I buy a key blank online and have you cut and program it, or do you supply the key?

You can, but there is a real risk to that path. The Express transponder key blank has to have the correct chip inside, and not every blank sold online actually contains what the listing claims. I have seen blanks arrive with the wrong chip type, blanks with chips that are defective out of the package, and blanks with blades that are close but not quite right and cause wear on the lock over time.

I supply my own blanks because I test them before they go in the van. If a batch comes in with inconsistent chips or brittle housings, it goes back. When you bring your own blank, I can still cut it and attempt programming, but if it fails I cannot guarantee the blank, only the labor. For a work van where reliability matters, I would rather supply a blank I have already vetted.
