My fob shell is cracking around the hinge. Can you fix it without reprogramming the whole key?

Yes. The flip mechanism and the shell on these fobs do take wear, especially around the hinge pivot and the key ring loop. The circuit board inside is what holds the programming, and it transfers directly into a replacement shell. As long as the board is intact, no reprogramming is needed. We can also cut a fresh blade to match your vehicle if the current one is worn. The swap itself is quick and the key comes out of it working exactly as it did before, just in a shell that isn't falling apart.

What does "remote" mean for the 2022 Express, and why does programming matter?

The 2022 Express uses a flip-style remote: a physical blade that turns in the ignition cylinder, combined with a fob that handles lock, unlock, and the other buttons remotely. The blade side and the remote side do different jobs. The blade needs to be cut to your vehicle. The fob side needs to be registered to the vehicle's security system through the OBD port so the system recognizes it. A replacement fob that hasn't been programmed will run the blade fine in the ignition but the remote buttons won't do anything until it's paired. We handle both the cut and the programming on site.

My Chevrolet is showing a security warning and won't start. What is actually happening?

When the vehicle security system throws a warning and the engine won't crank, it usually means the system didn't get a valid signal from the key during that start attempt. First thing: try your spare key if you have one. If the spare starts it cleanly, the issue is with the first key, not the vehicle. If neither key works, the problem could be a worn blade, a damaged fob, a fault at the ignition cylinder, or something the body control module needs to have reset with a proper diagnostic tool. The old ignition-turn relearn sequences that worked on older Chevrolet models don't apply the same way to current platforms, so if basic swaps don't resolve it, a tech with the right equipment needs to read what the system is actually reporting before guessing at parts.

I bought a replacement fob online. Can I program it myself or do I need a tech?

You need a tech. The 2022 Express does not have a DIY add-a-key sequence you can run from the driver's seat. Programming requires a diagnostic tool connected to the OBD port to access the vehicle's security system and register the new fob. There's no button combination or ignition trick that gets you there. Buying the fob online is fine, just know the hardware is only half the job. Bring it to us and we register it on site. It works out cheaper than going to the dealer even when you factor in the fob you already bought.

All my keys are gone. Can a new key still be made for the Express, or does it have to go to the dealer?

All-keys-lost is a standard job. It doesn't have to go anywhere. I come to you in Del Mar Village, connect to the OBD port, clear the old key data from the system, cut and register a new fob from scratch. The process takes longer than a spare-key job because of the security timer built into the relearn sequence, but it's fully doable on site. Any previously lost remotes get wiped out in the process so they can't be used to access the vehicle. Plan for roughly 45 to 60 minutes depending on how the security sequence runs.
