2018 Chevrolet Express Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy parked near the community center not far from Moonlight Beach. He had a 2018 Express, a work van he depended on, and it would crank for about two seconds and cut out. Every time.

He'd already had someone else out. That tech told him the body control module was the problem, took his money, and left. The van still didn't start.

I pulled up and did the obvious thing first: looked at the security indicator. It was telling me everything. The key had been written into the system, but only partially. The previous tech had run a learn sequence and bailed before the timer finished. The key existed in the system's memory, but it had never been committed. So every start attempt, the van would crank, the immobilizer would check, and then it would shut the fuel down.

I cleared the incomplete key data, ran a clean learn from scratch with the full timed sequence, and waited it out the way you're supposed to. The security light went dark on schedule. I cycled the key. The van started and idled like nothing had ever been wrong.

The module was never the issue. It was a procedure problem, not a parts problem. I showed him what the confirmation looked like on the scanner so he knew the key was properly committed this time.

He was frustrated about paying twice for the same job. I understood that. All I could do was make sure the second time actually stuck.
