A guy down at Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard had just bought a 1998 S4 from a friend of a friend. Clean car, fair deal, one key. The seller told him a spare would be cheap.
He called the Audi dealer. The number they gave him was not cheap. He had just put down money on the car, first month of insurance, registration. Another big hit for a single key was not in the plan.
He found me online and asked if the dealer quote was normal. I told him it was. Dealers charge what dealers charge. But I can do the same key, same cut, same programming for a fraction of what they wanted because I do not carry the overhead.
I met him in the gym parking lot before his workout. His S4 had the standard B5 platform flip key with the HU66 blade and a Megamos ID48 chip inside, immobilizer controlled through the Immo2 module in the cluster. I used my VVDI2 to read the existing key's transponder data and clone it onto a fresh ID48 blank. Whole process took about 25 minutes, most of that just the tool cycling through the crypto read.
He drove off with two working keys. That second key also means if he ever loses one, the next replacement is a simple add-a-key instead of an all-keys-lost situation, which saves a good chunk down the road.
