I got a call from a woman out in Casitas Springs, Ventura side. She was parked in a multi-level garage attached to an office building, lower floor, one of those structures where the turns are tight and the ceiling is low enough that a flatbed has no business being in there. The tow company she called told her they couldn't get to her car. The dealer told her to figure out a way to bring the car in. She was stuck between two businesses passing the problem back to her.
Her 2005 S4 had a flip key that had been getting flaky for a while. The blade pivot was worn and the remote was intermittent, but she kept using it. Then one morning it just stopped working entirely. No remote function, and the car wouldn't recognize it at the ignition either.
I drove into the garage with my van, parked where I had clearance, and walked the rest of the way down with my tools and a key cutting machine on a hand truck. I pulled the immobilizer PIN through the OBD port, generated the transponder side, cut the replacement blade, and programmed the fob. The whole thing happened right there between two concrete pillars on a lower parking level with bad fluorescent lighting. Her car never moved until she drove it out herself.
The dealer had already quoted her a few days minimum, assuming she could get the car to them first. She couldn't. That's the part they didn't have an answer for.
