2005 Audi S4
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to me in the Casitas Springs or Ventura area?

Typically within 30 minutes, depending on where you are and traffic. When you call, I confirm the details on your S4, make sure I have the right blank and battery loaded, and head straight to you. Audi owners who go the dealer route regularly report two to three days minimum for key authorization and programming, and longer if parts need to come from outside the country. Every call I take is treated as same-day.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made today for my 2005 Audi S4?

Yes. I carry the flip key blanks, the CR2032 cells, and the programming equipment on every call. There's no waiting on a part to ship, no VIN authorization queue through Audi's system, and no appointment-next-Tuesday situation. One owner I spoke with was told by a dealer it could take several weeks because the key had to be sourced internationally. I stock what I need for these and can have you holding a working key the same day you call.

Q: My 2005 S4 starts fine but the remote buttons on the flip key stopped working. What's going on?

This is actually a pretty common split failure on these. The transponder chip that lets the car start is completely separate from the radio transmitter that runs the remote functions. So the ignition system can recognize the key just fine while the fob side is dead. First thing to check is the CR2032 battery. These are easy to swap: pop the fob open at the seam, the battery is right there.

Q: The flip blade on my S4 key feels loose and wobbly. Is that something to fix now or can I keep using it?

Fix it sooner rather than later. The pivot pin that holds the blade in the flip housing wears down over time, and once it's loose enough, the blade can snap at the pivot or, worse, break off inside the ignition cylinder. Getting a blade out of an ignition is a separate job that costs more and takes longer than a straightforward key replacement. If the blade has play in it, that's the key telling you it's close to done.

2005 Audi S4 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman out in Casitas Springs, Ventura side.

She was parked in a multi-level garage attached to an office building, lower floor, one of those structures where the turns are tight and the ceiling is low enough that a flatbed has no business being in there. The tow company she called told her they couldn't get to her car. The dealer told her to figure out a way to bring the car in. She was stuck between two businesses passing the problem back to her.

Her 2005 S4 had a flip key that had been getting flaky for a while. The blade pivot was worn and the remote was intermittent, but she kept using it. Then one morning it just stopped working entirely. No remote function, and the car wouldn't recognize it at the ignition either.

I drove into the garage with my van, parked where I had clearance, and walked the rest of the way down with my tools and a key cutting machine on a hand truck. I pulled the immobilizer PIN through the OBD port, generated the transponder side, cut the replacement blade, and programmed the fob. The whole thing happened right there between two concrete pillars on a lower parking level with bad fluorescent lighting. Her car never moved until she drove it out herself.

The dealer had already quoted her a few days minimum, assuming she could get the car to them first. She couldn't. That's the part they didn't have an answer for.

How long does a 2005 Audi S4 key replacement take?▼

If you have a working key and just want a spare, the programming side of the job runs roughly 20 to 30 minutes once I'm connected. The 2005 S4 is an older VAG platform, which actually works in your favor: the immobilizer on these responds to OBD-based PIN reading without the extended bench procedures that newer Audis require.
