2002 Audi S4 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman in Ventura, over by the Telegraph Road shopping corridor, called me from a parking lot near one of the restaurants. Her 2002 S4 turned over fine but would not fire. Dash showed the immobilizer light staying solid instead of going out after two seconds like it should.
She had already tried the spare key. Same thing. Both flip keys, both with the MYT8Z0837231 fob and the HU66 blade, and neither one would get the car to start. She told me the remotes still locked and unlocked the doors, so she assumed it was a fuel pump or something electrical. A mobile mechanic had already come out and left confused.
I plugged in through the OBD port and pulled the immobilizer login from the instrument cluster using a VVDI Prog to read the Bosch RB8 cluster EEPROM. The SKC (secret key code) extracted clean, but the system showed zero synced transponders. Both ID48 chips had lost their adaptation to the immobilizer, something that happens on these B5-platform Audis when the cluster loses power or gets a voltage spike. The Audizine forums are full of this exact scenario.
I resynced both existing keys to the immobilizer module through the diagnostic port, then verified each one individually: ignition on, wait for the light to drop, engine start, remote lock, remote unlock, trunk release, panic. Both worked.
She sat in the driver's seat for a second after it started, just listening to the engine idle, like she was making sure it was real. Whole job took about 40 minutes. The dealer had quoted her a tow plus a multi-day wait just to diagnose it.
