I got a call from a guy over in the Royal/Kadota area of Simi Valley. He'd been out on the trails, mountain bike still strapped to the roof when he got back to the parking lot and started checking his pockets. No key. I pulled up and started at the door cylinder. Picked and decoded the lock to get the exact cut depths for a new blade, all done mechanically without touching any electronics. Once I had the cut, I moved to the OBD port, read the immobilizer data, and ran the all-keys-lost sequence. That process clears every previously registered key and enrolls the new one as the primary. Nothing from his old fob would open or start the car after that point, which is actually the security feature working correctly.
The new key turned over the S4 right there in the lot. Bike rack and all.
He'd been mentally preparing for a tow bill on top of whatever the dealer was going to charge. The mobile job was a fraction of that, done on site, and he drove home the same afternoon.
