2017 Buick Envision
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: What is the FCC ID for the 2017 Buick Envision key fob?

The factory FCC ID is printed on the back of your fob. For the 2017 Envision, that identifier is what tells us which fob blank to pull, what frequency it operates on, and how to match the programming to your vehicle's security system. If you're sourcing a fob online before calling us, confirm that number on your existing fob first.

Q: How does the cost of replacing a 2017 Buick Envision smart key compare to the dealer?

The dealer route on one of these is not cheap. You're looking at the key itself, a programming fee, and sometimes a wait for the part to come in, especially if they don't stock it. Owners report waiting anywhere from same-day to several days depending on the dealer's inventory. With me, it's done on-site in South Bank or wherever you are in Oxnard. The price covers the fob, the insert blade cut, programming, and the mobile call.

Q: I still have one working key for my 2017 Envision. Can I add a second fob before I'm in an all-keys-lost situation?

Yes, and this is the smarter move. Adding a spare while you still have a working key is faster and generally simpler than an all-keys-lost job. The vehicle's security system needs to see at least one already-paired fob during the add-a-key process, so having that working key on hand keeps the procedure clean. All-keys-lost on a proximity smart key system like this one is doable, but it takes longer and requires a full security reset through the diagnostic port.

Q: The door handle touch unlock stopped working on my 2017 Envision but the start button still sees the fob. What's going on?

The fob is probably fine. If the push-button start recognizes the key, the pairing between fob and vehicle is intact. Touch unlock on these relies on a capacitive sensor in the door handle. That sensor, its wiring, or the door's own module can fault out independently of whether the fob is healthy. Dirt, moisture, and worn contacts in the handle area are common culprits. Try cleaning the handle surface around the sensor and retest.

2017 Buick Envision Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked off the waterfront in South Bank on a Tuesday morning wrapping up another job when a call came in. Guy had a 2017 Buick Envision, key blade snapped off in the door lock. Not chipped off at the tip. Clean break, right about mid-blade, with half of it still seated inside the cylinder.

He told me a locksmith had already looked at it and said the cylinder needed to come out and probably be drilled. I told him to sit tight.

When I got there, the broken fragment was deep enough that you couldn't grab it by hand, but the cylinder hadn't been touched. That mattered. I used a Lishi tool to work the fragment out without disturbing the internal wafers. Took patience, not force. Once it was clear, I decoded the lock right there and cut a new insert blade to match.

The part that changed his whole afternoon: no drilling, no cylinder replacement, no having a door key that doesn't match his ignition. The car came back to him exactly the way it left the factory in terms of how the locks work together.

He'd already been quoted a number from the first locksmith that made him wince. What he paid me was a fraction of that. He didn't bring it up much. He was just relieved the door cylinder was intact.

Buick Envision Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What battery does the 2017 Buick Envision key fob use?▼

CR2032. It's one of the most common fob batteries out there, so you can grab one at any auto parts store, pharmacy, or big box store. The fob opens from the back. One thing I'll add: a dying CR2032 on these fobs doesn't always announce itself obviously. You might notice the door handle touch unlock getting flaky, or the range dropping off before you ever see a warning on the dash.
