Out in the Wagon Wheel neighborhood in Oxnard, a guy with a 2017 Buick Envision had a broken key blade stuck in his driver door lock. Snapped clean at the shoulder. He had already called another locksmith who told him the HU100 cylinder would need to be drilled out and replaced.
That is a messy path on these cars. The Envision's door cylinder and the emergency start backup share the same cut code, so drilling means you end up with a replacement cylinder keyed differently from your remaining fob blade. Now you are carrying two keys for one car, and neither one does everything.
I drove out, grabbed my HU100 Lishi, and extracted the broken fragment without scoring the internal wafers. Took a few minutes of patience, nothing dramatic. Once it was out, I decoded the lock right there on the door, cut a new HU100 blade to the original code, and seated it into a new HYQ4AA shell.
Then the programming side. Connected through the OBD-II port, wrote the new key to the BCM, and confirmed both fobs showed active in the system. Tested passive entry on all four doors, liftgate button, push-button start, and remote start from across the parking area.
He watched the whole thing from the sidewalk. When I handed him the new fob, he just turned it over in his hand and said, "That's it?" That was it. No drill, no cylinder swap, no mismatched keys, and a good chunk less than the other guy's quote.
