2022 Buick Envision Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy staying in Waverly Heights, here in Thousand Oaks. He was a traveling professor, in town for a conference, and his only key to his 2022 Buick Envision had stopped working. Not lost. Just stopped. The remote functions went first, then he got a warning on the dash, and then the car wouldn't start at all.
He'd already called the dealer. They quoted him a multi-day wait and told him he'd have to arrange a tow. He had a session to lead the next morning.
I met him that same evening in the driveway of where he was staying. He handed me the fob and I checked the battery first. CR2450, which is the correct cell for this fob. It tested low enough that I swapped it out on the spot before doing anything else. Remote functions came back immediately.
But the car still wouldn't start.
That told me the remote side and the immobilizer side were two separate problems. I connected through the OBD port, brought up the security system, and walked through the key registration process. The fob paired correctly. He turned the key and the engine started on the first try.
He was a little surprised it took two steps. I explained that the remote and the starting authorization talk to the car differently, so one can fail while the other still works, or in his case, fail in sequence. Once both were sorted, everything worked the way it should.
He made his session the next morning. The dealer wait was never part of the plan.
