Got a call from the Bubbling Springs neighborhood in Port Hueneme. Lady had a 2019 Ecosport with a smart key that was literally falling apart. The shell had cracked right at the blade pivot where the emergency HU101 insert key slides out, and the whole thing was held together with a hair tie.
She had already called the Ford dealer. They told her she needed a full replacement key, programmed and cut. Multiple days because the blank had to be ordered.
I met her in her driveway and took a look. Popped the cracked shell open on her hood. The circuit board inside, the one carrying the M3N-A2C93142300 electronics and the 128-bit AES transponder chip, was in perfect shape. No corrosion, no cracked solder points, nothing wrong with it.
I transferred the guts into a new aftermarket shell, seated the CR2450, and verified every button had solid range from about 30 feet out. Then I cut a fresh HU101 emergency blade to match and made sure it slid in and out of the new shell smoothly.
She stood there watching the whole transfer and kept looking back and forth between the old cracked shell and the new one like she was waiting for bad news. There wasn't any.
One visit, done at her house, and she kept her original programmed electronics. A fraction of what the dealer quoted for a part she didn't need.
