Got called out to Gaviota State Park where a 2022 EcoSport owner was stuck with the dreaded "No key detected" message on the dash.
She'd already tried the CR2450 swap. Remote buttons worked fine, doors locked and unlocked, but the push-start button just blinked orange. Ford's PATS was blocking the engine start because it couldn't read the HITAG Pro chip inside her M3N-A2C93142300 smart key.
I checked the basics first. Battery contacts clean, fob shell intact. Then I scanned for stored codes and found B10D9:87-68 logged in the BCM. That's Ford speak for "transponder signal too weak." Nine times out of ten, that means the ring antenna is going bad.
But before condemning parts, I tried something simple. Had her hold the fob right against the push-start button instead of in her pocket. Car fired right up. The antenna was weak but not dead yet.
Programmed her a second smart key as backup and showed her the antenna trick for when the original acts up. She mentioned the dealer wanted to replace the whole keyless module for way more than what a couple spare keys cost. Sometimes the small fix gets you back on the road while you decide on the bigger repair.
