A woman staying up near Mission Canyon in Santa Barbara called me on a Tuesday evening.
She'd been visiting for a few days, the EcoSport was her only car, and somewhere between the hiking trail and the rental she was using that week, the fob had just stopped cooperating. That still left me wanting to confirm the immobilizer communication was clean, so I ran a quick check through the OBD port to make sure the fob was still recognized properly by the vehicle security system. It was. No pairing had been lost. It was purely the battery causing the degraded signal.
She drove out of that parking spot the same evening. The dealer comparison didn't really need to be said out loud, but it was there.
