I was parked near Oxnard Shores on a Tuesday afternoon when the call came in. Woman with a 2009 Ridgeline, sitting in a grocery store lot about ten minutes away. Her key had gotten wet, not washing-machine wet, just caught in a downpour walking to the truck. It dried out but the fob side was dead. The key still turned in the ignition, but she had no remote functions and she was starting to wonder if something worse was going on.

I pulled up, popped the key head open right there on the hood. The CR1616 looked okay visually but tested low. Swapped the battery, tested range. Nothing. That told me the fob side had taken real water damage, not just a battery drain. We needed a new key.
I had the blank on the truck, cut it to her vehicle, programmed it to the car through the OBD port, and verified lock, unlock, and the third button all working. Then I walked the driver door, passenger door, confirmed the transponder side was talking to the immobilizer correctly, and did a start cycle. Took about 35 minutes total from when I pulled up.
She was back in her truck with cold groceries that were still mostly cold, and the dealer wait was not part of her day at all.
