2017 Honda Ridgeline Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A muffler shop over in the Nyeland Acres area of Oxnard called me about a 2017 Ridgeline sitting in their lot. Another locksmith had attempted an all-keys-lost smart key replacement, and partway through programming the car battery sagged. The immobilizer module threw a fault and locked up. The other tech packed his tools and left.
When I got there the owner was standing next to his truck looking like he'd already done the math on a flatbed to the dealer. I could tell he didn't want to hear bad news.
First thing I did was clamp my jump pack directly to the battery posts. Stable voltage, no dips. Then I connected my IM608 to the OBD port and pulled the fault codes out of the body control module. The immobilizer had flagged a security handshake interruption, which is exactly what happens when power drops mid-programming on these Honda IMMO 4.1 systems. I cleared the codes, confirmed the module reset cleanly, and started a fresh key registration from scratch.
His KR5V2X fob learned on the first pass. Proximity detection on all four doors, tailgate button, push-button start, remote lock and unlock. Everything checked out.
I walked the muffler shop guys through the voltage issue so they'd know to mention it if a customer ever showed up mid-key-job again. The whole thing took about ninety minutes, which is longer than a normal smart key job, but it got done on site, same day, for a fraction of what the dealer route would have cost after the tow and the wait.
