There's a muffler shop off Saviers Road in Oxnard, not far from Nyeland Acres. They called me on a Tuesday afternoon with a situation that was already a mess before I got involved.
A 2017 Ridgeline owner had lost his keys. He hired a different locksmith to handle it. That locksmith started the all-keys-lost programming sequence, and somewhere in the middle of the security handshake, the truck's battery voltage dropped. The process got interrupted. When it did, the vehicle security system flagged the incomplete sequence and went into a fault state. The fob didn't register. The truck wouldn't start. The other locksmith packed his tools and told the customer to call a dealer.
The muffler shop knew me, so they called instead.
When I got there, I connected my jump pack first and stabilized voltage before touching anything else. That's the move most people skip, and it's why jobs like this go sideways. Once I had steady power, I used my scan tool to read and clear the fault codes the interrupted sequence had left behind. The vehicle security system came out of its locked state cleanly after that.
From there it was a standard all-keys-lost procedure. New fob, clean programming session, one attempt to register, done. I walked every button on the fob and confirmed the truck started and locked the way it should.
The whole job took about an hour and a half, longer than a clean all-keys-lost would normally run. The extra time was the fault recovery. His other option was a flatbed, a multi-day wait at the dealer, and a bill that was a good chunk heavier than mine. He got it same-day, in the parking lot, and drove home.
I left the muffler shop team with one piece of advice: if anyone brings them a vehicle mid-programming and something went wrong, don't let the next person start fresh without checking the fault codes first. The interrupted sequence leaves a footprint, and you have to clear it before the system will cooperate.
