2014 Honda Ridgeline Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was already running in Oxnard on a Friday night when the call came in from Mandalay Beach. A family had walked out of a taqueria and their 2014 Ridgeline would not respond to anything.
The fob was dead, the doors weren't locking remotely, and neither of them knew how to get the truck started with a depleted fob. They thought the night was over and they were going to leave the truck there until Monday.
I was about 15 minutes out. Told them to stay put.
The remote head key on the first-gen Ridgeline is an integrated unit, blade and fob together, so there's no emergency insert key to fall back on the way a smart key setup has one. When the battery dies hard, it looks more dramatic than it is. I pulled the old CR1616, which was the right type but clearly exhausted, seated a fresh one from the drawer, and the remote came back immediately. Doors locked, mirrors responded, everything alive.
The fob itself still needed to be confirmed in the system, which took a few minutes with the programmer. First start attempt after that and the truck fired right up.
The mom had already started mentally planning who was driving out to pick them up. She looked a little surprised it was done before she finished explaining the problem to her husband. They were home before 10pm, which on a Friday night at Mandalay Beach means they beat the traffic out of there too.
I didn't mention the dealer until they asked. All-keys-lost or a full replacement would have meant a wait until Monday, then a couple of days for parts. This was a battery and a confirmation, done at the curb in under 30 minutes.
