A guy in Camarillo, over in the Daily Drive commercial area, had dropped his EX35 smart key on garage concrete that morning. The fob shell cracked along the seam and the car started flashing "I-KEY System Error" every time he hit the push-button start. He could still get the engine going by holding the fob right against the start button, but the proximity detection was dead. Doors wouldn't sense him walking up. Trunk button on the hatch did nothing.

The impact had shifted the CR2032 off its contact and put a hairline crack in the board near the 315 MHz antenna trace. Board was part number 285E3-JA05A internals, same as every KR55WK48903 unit I carry. I swapped in a new fob, decoded the NSN14 blade with my Lishi, cut it to match, and ran the registration through OBD on the BCM. All four buttons tested clean. Proximity pickup worked from every door handle and the hatch.
He walked back inside with a working key. His car never moved from the parking spot. The whole thing took less than his lunch hour, for a fraction of what the dealer would have charged plus the tow he never had to book.
