A lot of people don't realize how few Infiniti dealers actually exist. In Ventura County there isn't one at all. The nearest sit out toward Oxnard or down in Thousand Oaks, and even those are a haul depending on where you are.
A retired guy living on one of the hillside properties outside Camarillo, near the Ventura Boulevard shopping area, had a 2012 EX35 with one working smart key left. He called the closest Infiniti dealer. They told him they'd need to order a VIN-matched fob, schedule an appointment, and he'd have to get the car there. Round trip plus wait time plus the key itself added up to most of a day and a painful bill.
He found me instead and asked if I'd come to him. I told him I'd drive out.
I worked on the car in his driveway. Plugged into the OBD port, pulled the 20-digit PIN from the BCM through my programmer, and registered a new KR55WK48903 fob to the NATS6 system. Cut the NSN14 emergency insert blade on site, tested push-button start, tested all four fob buttons, walked every door handle for proximity unlock.
He watched most of it from a patio chair. When the engine turned over on the new key, he just nodded like he'd been waiting for it all day. Which, honestly, he had.
