2017 Infiniti QX80 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
He landed at LAX on a Tuesday, walked out to long-term parking with his carry-on, and nothing happened when he pointed the fob at the QX80. No lights, no click, nothing. He tried again. Still nothing. The battery in his smart key had finally given out somewhere over the Midwest.
He had a territory meeting in Thousand Oaks, out in Rancho Conejo, in under three hours.
He called the Infiniti dealer first. Earliest availability was Friday. It was Tuesday afternoon. A tow was going to run him the better part of two hundred dollars and still get him nowhere until the weekend. Someone at the parking booth told him to search mobile locksmiths, and he found me.
I was there in under an hour. First thing I showed him was the mechanical blade folded inside the fob itself -- he had no idea it was there. We got the door open in about thirty seconds. Once inside, I connected through the OBD port and confirmed his fob was still paired and the system recognized it. The problem was exactly what it looked like: the dead battery had killed the wireless signal entirely, and the vehicle had logged a communication fault because the fob had gone quiet mid-session sometime before he boarded.
CR2032 in, contacts cleaned, fault cleared through the scan tool. The fob came back completely. Lock, unlock, all five buttons, door handle touch response, everything.
He was on the 101 toward Rancho Conejo with time to spare. The dealer would have had him waiting three days and arranging a tow. One visit, one working key.
