2020 Infiniti QX80 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near Oxnard State Beach Park, a woman with a 2020 QX80 had just loaded her kids into the back seat after a beach afternoon. Key wouldn't start the car. Push button gave her nothing but a yellow key warning light on the instrument cluster and "KEY ID INCORRECT" on the center display. She tried holding the fob against the start button, which is the emergency backup if your battery is dead. Still nothing.

I pulled out my IM608 and connected through the OBD-II port under the dash. Ran the Infiniti Intelligent Key system on the 4A security access sequence. The BCM came back showing zero registered keys. Her original fob, the CWTWB1G744 with the 285E3-1LA5A part number, had just dropped off the system. That happens on these. The BCM loses the key ID and acts like it never existed.
While security access processed its timed countdown, I prepped a new 5-button smart key and cut the emergency insert blade to match her door. Once the system opened up, I wrote the new key, then re-registered her original fob too so she'd have both.
Tested push-to-start, all four door handles, lock, unlock, liftgate, remote start. Everything answered. The kids were asleep before she pulled out of the lot.
Whole thing took about 35 minutes from when I opened my bag. A dealer would have meant a tow and days without the car.
