I was parked at the edge of the Cathedral Oaks neighborhood in Goleta when the guy walked over from the little league fields, still carrying a lineup card.
His 2010 Jeep Compass was the family hauler. Kids, gear, the whole deal. Before I even touched the key, he asked me a real question: what happens if the key stops working next week? He wasn't being difficult. He'd clearly had a bad experience somewhere before, or knew someone who had.

Then I waited a few minutes and tested again, because some intermittent issues only surface after the key has been sitting idle for a bit.
He watched the whole thing from about four feet away, arms crossed. When the engine turned over on the new key and the remotes all responded, he just nodded like he was ticking a box.
The dealer quote he'd gotten involved scheduling, a tow because he had no working key, and a wait. What I gave him was done at the fields in Goleta, on his schedule, for a fraction of what they wanted.
