2015 Jeep Compass
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Do I have to tow my Compass to the dealer if I have no working key?

No. The dealer route just feels like the only option because it's the one most people know. A mobile locksmith with the right programming equipment can handle an all-keys-lost job at your location. The immobilizer gets reset, a new key gets cut and enrolled, and you drive away. Towing a vehicle because of a lost key is a real cost you don't have to take on.

Q: How long does an all-keys-lost job take on a 2015 Compass?

Typically 45 minutes to an hour on site once I'm at the vehicle. The 2015 Compass doesn't have the gateway restrictions that add time on newer models, so once the programmer is connected, the key memory wipe and re-enrollment moves quickly. Cutting the blade and testing all functions adds a few minutes on top. Compare that to a dealer visit where you're looking at towing, scheduling, and potentially waiting on parts.

Q: My fob buttons stopped working but the key still starts the car. What's going on?

That's almost always the CR2032. On the 2015 Compass remote head key, the battery powers the remote side only. The ignition function runs through a separate system, so a dead battery kills your lock and unlock while leaving the start completely unaffected. Swap the CR2032 first.

Q: Can I buy a replacement fob online and program it myself?

The remote head key on the 2015 Compass requires a programmer connected to the OBD port to enroll a new key. There's no ignition-turn sequence or button trick that works on this system. You can source a fob, but you still need someone with the right equipment to pair it and cut the blade.

2015 Jeep Compass Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy in Old Town Goleta, parked in the lot behind his office. He'd been using a cracked, taped-together remote head key for months, figured he'd deal with it eventually. Eventually arrived when the tape gave out and the key body snapped near the blade. He had one piece in his hand and one piece in his bag.

He found me after a bad experience with someone who showed up, collected payment, and handed him a key that wouldn't program. No receipt. Phone went dead two days later.

He was calm about it, almost matter-of-fact. He just wanted someone who was actually licensed.

I pulled up in Old Town Goleta, verified my BSIS license on the spot, and got to work. The 2015 Compass takes a four-button remote head key with a CR2032 inside. I cut a fresh blade to match his vehicle, programmed the replacement through the OBD port, and ran through every function before I handed it over. Lock, unlock, the other buttons, ignition cycle. Everything live, right in front of him.

He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer had quoted him, and he had a working key in about forty minutes. The thing he kept coming back to wasn't the price. It was having a real receipt with a real license number he could look up.

Jeep Compass Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I lost all my keys to my 2015 Jeep Compass. Can you still make one?▼

Yes, all-keys-lost on the 2015 Compass is a standard job. The process involves erasing whatever keys the immobilizer has stored, then writing fresh ones so any lost keys can no longer start the vehicle. On this generation, there's no secure gateway complicating access, which keeps the job cleaner than on newer platforms. Plan on roughly 45 minutes to an hour on site, cutting and programming included. No tow, no appointment, no waiting on a dealer parts order.
