La Conchita sits right along the coast just outside Ventura, one of those spots where you're technically on the edge of everything. A guy who works road crew for touring acts called me from a venue parking lot up the hill. He had a 2024 Jeep Compass, push-button start, and no fob. Somewhere between load-in and load-out, it was gone. Checked the gear cases, the truck, the staging area. Nothing.

The vehicle's security system needs to recognize a paired fob wirelessly before it will do anything. When there are zero recognized fobs, you have to go through the OBD port with the right diagnostic equipment, wipe the existing key memory, and register the new fob fresh. I backed up the immobilizer data first as a precaution, then ran the all-keys-lost sequence. The new five-button fob, using the factory FCC ID, paired cleanly.
He tested it himself, walking up to the Compass with the fob in his pocket, pressing the start button. First try.
The rest of the crew was still breaking down the stage setup when he came back over. He said the dealer had quoted him a number that would have hurt. What he paid me was a fraction of that, done on site, no tow, no waiting around.
