Saturday morning call from over near Tomol Interpretive Play Area in Carpinteria. Guy had a 2004 Range Rover parked on the street and one mechanical key that had been slowly getting worse for months. The blade was visibly worn down on the cuts, and he said he had to wiggle it hard just to get the ignition barrel to turn. That morning it finally stopped turning altogether.
He told me he had called the dealer on Friday. They said bring it in Monday, leave it, and they would order the key blank and cut it. Could be a few days. He asked about Saturday and got a long pause followed by "we can try to fit you in but no promises."
I got there in about twenty minutes. Cut a fresh HU92 blade on site using his worn key and the door code pulled from the KVM. Then came the real part: programming the PCF7935 transponder through the EWS side of the immobilizer. The L322 KVM board, the one with the Motorola processor, talks to the EWS ring on the ignition barrel. You have to write the new key's ID44 data into the system or the engine cranks and dies.
Whole thing took maybe thirty-five minutes. He turned the ignition and it fired clean, no wiggle, no drama. He just sat there for a second like he forgot what a normal key turn felt like.
He drove off. I packed up. Saturday, done same-day, right at the curb.
