I was parked on the Eastside on a Tuesday morning when a call came in from a Range Rover owner on a residential street off North Milpas. He had one fob left. It had been dropped, and now the car wasn't reading it consistently on approach. Sometimes the handles lit up, sometimes nothing. He'd been getting in by pulling the handle twice and hoping.
When I got there, I popped the fob open on the hood of my van. The CR2032 was original, and the positive contact tab had a slight upward bow from the drop, barely noticeable unless you're looking for it. The battery had enough voltage, but the contact pressure was off.
I straightened the tab, reseated the battery, and put the fob back together. Tested approach on both front handles. Both woke up clean. Locked, unlocked, checked every button. All responding. Walked him through the backup start method in case it ever happens again.
The whole thing was under fifteen minutes. He mentioned he'd called the dealer first and they were already talking about ordering a new fob, which would have taken days. He just needed someone who looked at the hardware instead of going straight to "order parts."
