2015 Land Rover Range Rover Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from over by Santa Barbara City College. Guy had a 2015 Range Rover, full size L405, and his only smart key had stopped working mid-afternoon. Doors would not respond, start button ignored it, dash just sat there with "Smart Key not detected."
He had already tried a new CR2032. Twice.
When I got there, I popped the fob open on the hood. The KOBJTF10A shell looked fine, battery contacts clean, HK83-15K601-AA board intact. But when I put it on the diagnostic through the OBD port, the KVM was not seeing it at all. The transponder data had dropped out of the module's memory. This happens on the L405 more than people expect, especially if the 12V vehicle battery has dipped low or been disconnected. The KVM can lose a stored key profile.
Reprogrammed the fob back into the KVM, confirmed the Hitag Pro handshake, tested passive entry on all four doors and the tailgate, then ran the start/stop three times cold. Everything came back.
He stood there watching the tailgate open from his pocket like it was the first time. Said the dealer quoted him over a week wait and wanted him to tow it in. I was done in under an hour, on site, parked next to his car near Santa Barbara City College. He kept his original key and paid a fraction of what they wanted.
